National Child Safety Training Community of Practice resources

These Community of Practice resources are voluntary and complement the National Child Safety Training package for the education and care sector, developed in partnership with the Queensland Government on behalf of Australian governments.

The National Child Safety Training package includes the mandatory eLearning courses (Foundations of Child Safety Training available now, and advanced training expected in July 2026) and accompanying non-mandatory Community of Practice resources. The eLearning courses are required to be completed under the National Law.

The Community of Practice resources support sustained learning and help embed the training in everyday practice. Regular discussion and reflection strengthen shared understanding, build child-safe culture, and enhance safety for children in education and care settings. These resources can be facilitated by any individual who has completed the course.

While the Community of Practice resources are not mandatory, they support teams to apply the training consistently in practice and are strongly recommended as part of implementation and best practice.

Activities are designed for short, structured discussions (approximately 20-60 minutes) and can be used during staff meetings, supervision, professional development sessions or dedicated reflection time. They are designed to be flexible and can be adapted to suit specific needs, care contexts, or agencies. Start with one activity and repeat regularly, consistency is more important than completing all activities.

More information about Communities of Practice, how they work, and how to facilitate them is available in the Community of Practice Facilitator Guide. This can be downloaded by clicking on the icon below.
